About this calculator
Cycling Speed is easiest to get wrong in the setup, not the arithmetic. It computes average speed = distance ÷ time. It matters when you want a quick screening number before deciding whether a habit, plan or measurement deserves a closer look. The worked example on this page (Riding 40 km in 1 h 20 min (1.333 h) is 40 ÷ 1.333 = 30 km/h .) shows the full substitution; the calculator above runs the same working on your own numbers, in your browser, with nothing uploaded.

FAQ
How is average cycling speed calculated?
Speed equals distance divided by time in hours. Riding 20 km in 60 minutes is 20 km/h.
Does this include stops?
It uses the total time you enter, so including stoppage time lowers the average. Enter moving time only if you want moving speed.
Why is my average lower than my top speed?
Average speed blends climbs, headwinds, corners, and coasting, so it is naturally well below the peak speed you hit on descents.
Does the Cycling Speed Calculator send my data to a server?
No. The Cycling Speed Calculator runs entirely in your browser — your inputs never leave your device, and nothing is uploaded or stored.
Worked example
Riding 40 km in 1 h 20 min (1.333 h) is 40 ÷ 1.333 = 30 km/h.
